Varnished cotton cloth tape with rubber adhesive, abrasion-resistant, rated to 220 °F, 1 in by 108 ft continuous roll
This 3M varnished cambric tape provides abrasion-resistant insulation for electrical conductors. The rubber adhesive bonds to cotton cloth backing rated for continuous operation up to 220 degrees Fahrenheit. It suits electricians and maintenance crews wrapping motor leads, transformer coils or bus bars where heat and mechanical wear are concerns.
The tape withstands maximum operating temperatures of 220 degrees Fahrenheit without degrading its insulating properties. As a passive wrapping material it generates no noise and draws no power during application or service. The 8 mil thickness maintains dielectric strength while resisting abrasion from vibration or movement.
A single 108 foot roll eliminates splices when insulating extended conductor lengths. The one inch width covers standard wire gauges and small bus bars in fewer passes. Yellow colour coding allows quick visual identification of phased circuits or high-temperature zones during inspection.

Wrap the tape tightly with half-lap coverage; the step often missed is applying enough tension so the rubber adhesive bonds fully to itself and the insulation.
The tape is rated to 220 Degrees F; if operating temperatures stay below that limit it retains dielectric strength, but sustained overheating will degrade the varnish and require re-wrapping.
The maximum continuous performance temperature is 220 Degrees F; exceeding this causes the varnished cotton cloth to break down faster than mechanical wear.
