3M 483 Yellow Polyethylene Film Tape

This 3M 483 film tape is a single-sided yellow polyethylene roll with a rubber adhesive backing. It measures 1 inch wide by 36 yards long on a 3-inch core. The tape is 5.3 mil thick and rated for continuous use from -20 degrees F up to 170 degrees F.

How it fits into a packing station

The roll mounts on standard 3-inch core dispensers and unwinds as a continuous length for sealing cartons, bundling items or colour-coding shipments. Its 300 percent elongation lets it stretch around irregular shapes without snapping, while the 10 lb-in tensile strength holds bundles together under tension.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

The rubber adhesive delivers 12 oz/in peel strength on corrugated fibreboard and many plastics, making it suitable for general-purpose sealing and identification tasks. Buyers who need a wider roll, a different core size or an adhesive rated beyond 170 degrees F should consider other specifications.

Questions about this item

At what temperature does the 3M 483 tape start to lose adhesion during long runs?

The rubber adhesive is rated to perform down to -20 °F, so sustained cold below that point is the first limit you will hit.

How warm does the roll get when sealing cartons continuously all day?

The tape itself does not generate heat; its polyethylene backing and rubber adhesive are rated for continuous use up to 170 °F without softening.

Which dispenser core size matches the 3-inch core on this roll?

Any standard 3-inch core hand dispenser or case sealer will accept the roll directly.
