This 3M 8901 polyester film tape handles masking jobs that reach 400 degrees F without leaving residue. The silicone adhesive bonds cleanly to metal, glass and composite surfaces during powder-coating, anodising or soldering cycles. Each roll measures 1 in by 72 yd at 2.4 mil thickness and the pack contains 36 rolls for production runs.

Application notes and common issues

The thin polyester backing tears cleanly by hand but can stretch if pulled aggressively; apply with light tension and smooth with a roller to prevent air pockets. Silicone adhesive requires a dust-free surface — wipe with isopropyl alcohol first or adhesion drops sharply. Tape left beyond the 400 degree F limit may bake on and become difficult to remove in one piece.

Checklist before ordering

Confirm the process temperature stays between 40 and 400 degrees F so the tape performs as specified. Verify that a 1 in width covers the mask area without excessive overlap or gaps. Ensure storage stays below the maximum temperature to preserve the silicone adhesive shelf life.
