987 Transfer Tape for General Maintenance

3M 987 is an adhesive transfer tape supplied on a continuous roll measuring 1/2 in wide by 60 yd long. The reverse-wound format suits general maintenance and repair tasks indoors or outdoors. Electricians and technicians use it for bonding, splicing and sealing where a clean adhesive line is needed.

Temperature Range from -60 to 250 Degrees F

The tape retains performance across a wide service window from -60 Degrees F up to 250 Degrees F. This stability means the adhesive stays reliable through seasonal extremes without softening in heat or becoming brittle in cold. No special storage conditions are required for normal use.

Replaces Liquid Adhesives and Mechanical Fasteners

Switching from messy liquids or bulky hardware cuts application time and eliminates cure waits. The jump is worth it when you need immediate handling strength on irregular surfaces or in tight spaces where clamps cannot reach. Orders of 75 or more ship free.

Questions about this item

How do I apply the 1/2 in wide 987 transfer tape without trapping air bubbles?

Unroll the adhesive side onto the surface while keeping tension even, then press firmly with a squeegee or roller from the centre outward; the reverse-wound liner releases cleanly when you peel it back at a low angle.

Will the adhesive on this 60 yd roll degrade if stored for months before use?

The acrylic adhesive is stable at room temperature; keep the roll in its original packaging away from direct sunlight and extreme heat to maintain the rated -60 °F to 250 °F performance window.

At what temperature does the 987 tape start to lose holding power during continuous outdoor exposure?

The tape is rated for continuous performance up to 250 °F; sustained temperatures above that level will cause the adhesive to soften and reduce bond strength first.
