3M Privacy Filter PF18.1 18.1" black video accessory

Product identity

The 3M Privacy Filter PF18.1 is an 18.1 inch display accessory that limits the viewing angle so only the person directly in front of the screen can read the content. It is intended for professionals who handle confidential data in open-plan offices, shared workspaces or public areas. The filter attaches to the monitor surface and is supplied in new condition.

Practical limits

The filter works by narrowing the visible cone of the display, which means anyone viewing from the side sees a darkened screen while the centre position remains clear. This optical restriction is the trade-off for privacy; collaborators sitting beside the user will not be able to read the display without moving into the direct line of sight. Brightness and colour perception for the primary viewer are reduced compared with an unfiltered panel.

Upgrade context

It replaces the practice of angling a monitor away from neighbours or using makeshift cardboard shields, neither of which provide consistent optical blocking. The jump is worth it when visual confidentiality is a daily requirement rather than an occasional concern, and when a dedicated, repeatable solution that fits an 18.1 inch screen is preferred over temporary workarounds.
