Universal Lenovo Power Adapter

This 90W AC adapter supplies 20V at up to 4.5A through a square yellow slim tip, matching the connector used by many ThinkPad, IdeaPad, Yoga and ideacentre all-in-one models. It automatically adjusts output for 65W and 45W devices, so one unit covers several power requirements. The wide 100-240V input makes it suitable for international travel without a voltage converter.

Connector And Power Limits

The square yellow slim tip fits only Lenovo models that specify this exact connector; it will not mate with round, USB-C or older rectangular tips even if the voltage matches. Maximum output is 85W continuous, so systems that draw more than 85W under load may throttle or fail to charge while running. The fixed 20V rail means the adapter cannot negotiate other voltages required by non-Lenovo or newer USB-PD laptops.

Installation And Common Issues

Plug the detachable 1m AC cord into the brick, connect the 2.5m DC cable to the laptop, and the unit powers on automatically with no drivers required. The most frequent problem is tip wear: the slim yellow connector can loosen over time, causing intermittent charging or a "plugged in not charging" message. Dust inside the laptop jack or a bent centre pin produces the same symptoms, so inspect both sides before assuming the adapter is faulty.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 90W, 65W or 45W version for my Lenovo laptop?

This single adapter automatically adjusts to 90W, 65W or 45W devices, so you do not choose a version — it covers all three power levels for compatible Lenovo models.

What does the 20V 4.5A rating mean when the charger is plugged into my ThinkPad?

The adapter delivers up to 20 volts at 4.5 amps, providing a maximum of 90 watts; it will step down to 3.25 amps (65W) or 2.25 amps (45W) depending on what your laptop requests.

What connector standard does the square yellow slim tip use and what does it limit?

The square yellow slim tip is a proprietary 20V Lenovo connector; it fits only models that accept this exact tip and caps output at the laptop's supported wattage up to 90W.
