96 GB DDR3 ECC kit for Dell PowerEdge servers

This 96 GB kit contains six 16 GB registered DIMMs built for Dell PowerEdge 12th-generation rack servers. It targets administrators expanding memory capacity in R320, R420, R420xr, R520, R620, R720, R720xd, R820 or R920 systems.

Registered ECC with 2Rx4 organisation

The modules are DDR3 1600 PC3-12800R with CL11 latency, 1.50 V operation and dual-rank x4 architecture. Registered ECC signalling is mandatory; the kit will not function in platforms that only accept unbuffered non-ECC memory.

Standard voltage and no heat spreaders

Each DIMM runs at the JEDEC 1.50 V level without additional cooling hardware. Registered buffering reduces electrical load on the memory controller, keeping power draw and thermal output within normal server limits.

Questions about this item

What does 96GB (6x16GB) mean for a Dell PowerEdge R720 running virtual machines?

The kit provides six 16GB registered ECC modules that install in matched channels, giving the R720 a full 96GB of error-correcting memory for dense virtualization workloads.

How does the DDR3 1600 PC3-12800 interface limit performance on a 12th Gen PowerEdge?

The registered DIMMs operate at 1600MHz with CL11 timing, so the memory bus tops out at the PC3-12800 data rate defined for these Xeon platforms.

Will the 240-pin 2Rx4 RDIMMs fit the R620's DIMM slots without a heat spreader?

Yes, each module uses the standard 240-pin DDR3 RDIMM form factor and has no heat spreader, so it seats directly in the R620's memory slots.
