Compact converter for legacy gear

This ABLEWE RM unit turns composite RCA sources into a 720p or 1080p HDMI signal at 60 Hz. It suits owners of VHS decks, DVD players, PS2, PS3, Xbox, Wii or set-top boxes who want to view that content on a modern television or monitor without installing drivers.

Check your source and power first

Verify the device you are connecting actually outputs composite video through yellow, white and red phono sockets, because the adapter has no other analogue input. A 5 V USB supply is mandatory for operation; the box includes a USB power cable but no wall adapter, so have a spare USB port or charger ready.

Small enclosure, passive cooling

The red housing measures 2.7 in by 2.2 in by .66 in and weighs .07 kg, so it adds negligible bulk behind a TV. With no fan inside, it runs silently while converting PAL, NTSC 3.58, NTSC 4.43, SECAM, PAL/M or PAL/N signals to digital HDMI with stereo RCA audio pass-through.

Questions about this item

Does the box include a USB power adapter or only the cable?

The package contains the converter, a USB power cable and a user manual; a 5 V USB power adapter is not included and must be supplied separately.

Should I select the 720P or 1080P output setting for my display?

The device can output either 720P or 1080P at 60 Hz; choose 1080P for full-HD screens and 720P if the display only supports that resolution.

Will 1080P at 60 Hz look sharp on a modern 4 K television?

The converter up-scales the composite signal to 1080P 60 Hz; the TV will then scale that image to its native 4 K panel, so sharpness depends on the TV’s own scaler.
