Outdoor passive volume control

The Acoustic Audio AAOVCD-W is a weatherproof rotary attenuator designed for outdoor or whole-house speaker runs. It installs with four screws into a standard 1" PVC conduit fitting and accepts raw speaker wire up to 14 gauge. The low-voltage passive design requires no mains power, making it suitable for DIY or professional installation.

150 watts per channel with impedance matching

The unit handles 150 watts per channel and works with 4, 8, and 16 ohm speakers. Internal shorting bars let you safely connect up to eight pairs of 8 ohm speakers while maintaining a correct load for the amplifier. Without the bars engaged, the control is intended for a single pair per zone.

Silent passive operation in a sealed ABS housing

Because the circuit is entirely passive, it adds no noise, draws no power and generates no heat during use. The heavy-duty white ABS enclosure measures 2.75" x 4.5" x 2.75" and is rated for outdoor exposure. Installers seeking remote app control, digital display or active amplification will need a different product class.

Questions about this item

Will the 150-watt passive volume control work with my older 8-ohm outdoor speakers and 14-gauge wire?

Yes, the control handles 4, 8 and 16-ohm loads at up to 150 watts per channel and accepts wire up to 14 gauge, so it matches older 8-ohm speakers and existing cable.

How can I verify the 12-step dial and true "off" position are functioning after I mount the unit?

Rotate the dial through all 12 steps; the first click should mute the speakers completely, and each subsequent step should raise the volume audibly without distortion.

Does the package include the shorting bars and mounting hardware, or must I buy them separately?

The box contains the outdoor volume control with shorting bars pre-installed and an instruction manual with a reference chart; mounting screws and CL3-rated speaker wire are not included.
