Starter kit for the ItsyBitsy M4 microcontroller with a 120 MHz Cortex M4 processor, 512 KB flash, 192 KB RAM and a royal purple carrying case
The Adafruit CircuitPython Starter Kit bundles the ItsyBitsy M4 microcontroller with a selection of prototyping components and a royal purple carrying case. It is aimed at makers and engineers who want a breadboard-ready board for rapid CircuitPython development. The kit supplies everything needed to begin experimenting immediately. No soldering is required to start writing code.
The board centres on an ATSAMD51 Cortex M4 core clocked at 120 MHz with 512 KB flash and 192 KB RAM. This architecture provides generous memory headroom for interpreted CircuitPython scripts and multiple libraries. Performance scales with the single-core design and the available GPIO count. Complex real-time tasks may exceed the deterministic timing budget.
The ItsyBitsy M4 exposes 51 general-purpose input/output pins in a very compact footprint. That pin count determines whether the board can accommodate a project's sensor, actuator and communication needs. Builds requiring fewer pins can use a smaller board, while designs needing more I/O must choose a larger microcontroller. The physical layout is fixed and cannot be expanded.

This starter kit is built for the ItsyBitsy M4 and includes a royal purple carrying case plus a pack of parts for getting started with CircuitPython.
The ATSAMD51 Cortex M4 running at 120 MHz provides floating point support and fast execution so your code runs quickly on a compact board with plenty of GPIO.
The board uses a standard USB connection for power and programming; transfer speed will follow the USB class implemented by the CircuitPython firmware.
