Threadripper 9980X 64-Core Workstation

This business desktop centres on a 64-core AMD Threadripper 9980X processor with 128 threads and a 5.4 GHz boost clock. Liquid cooling handles the thermal load in a Corsair 5000D Frame tower. It ships with Windows 11 Pro and 64 GB of DDR5 ECC memory for professional workloads.

Installation and common issues

The system arrives fully assembled with the 360 mm AIO cooler pre-mounted to the sTR5 socket. Builders should verify that the 1200 W 80 Plus Gold PSU cables are seated and that the 4 TB NVMe drive is detected in BIOS. The tower provides 120 mm front and rear fans for case airflow.

PCIe 4.0 and 10 GbE limits

The Samsung 990 Pro SSD operates at PCIe 4.0 x4 with sequential reads up to 7450 MB/s and writes up to 6900 MB/s. The 10 TB hard drive uses a SATA 6 Gb/s interface. Network connectivity tops out at 10 Gbps via the Marvell AQtion AQC113C controller. GPU memory is fixed at 32 GB on the RTX 4500 Blackwell card.

Questions about this item

How do I confirm the Threadripper 9980X is reaching its 5.4 GHz boost after setup?

Open Task Manager or a hardware monitor and watch the CPU frequency climb to 5.4 GHz under load; the 360 mm liquid cooler keeps thermals in check so sustained boost is normal.

What ships in the box and what must I add myself?

The tower arrives fully assembled with Windows 11 Pro, 64 GB DDR5 ECC, 4 TB NVMe SSD, 10 TB HDD, RTX 4500 32 GB GPU, 1200 W PSU and liquid cooling — only a display, keyboard and mouse are needed.

Which configuration choice matters most for my workload: the 4 TB NVMe or the 10 TB HDD?

Choose the 4 TB NVMe (7450 MB/s read, 6900 MB/s write) for active project files and the 10 TB SATA drive for bulk archives; both are already installed.
