A four-port SATA RAID controller with PCI host interface and low-profile form factor
The Adaptec 2410SA is a four-port I/O processor-based native SATA RAID controller designed for high-end workstations and entry-level servers. It connects via a standard PCI host interface and supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 10 and JBOD. Advanced features include Optimized Disk Utilisation, Online Capacity Expansion and RAID Level Migration. Adaptec Storage Manager provides centralised management for host-based RAID controllers.
The plug-in card uses a low-profile form factor measuring 2.5 inches in height and 6.6 inches in width. All four SATA ports are internal and operate at Serial ATA/150 speeds. As a host-based RAID controller, processing load is handled by the system CPU rather than an onboard processor. No active cooling or external power connectors are mentioned in the specifications.
This card replaces motherboard SATA ports that lack hardware RAID support or offer fewer than four connections. The jump is worth it when you need RAID 5 or RAID 10 redundancy across four drives, or require Online Capacity Expansion and RAID Level Migration without downtime. It is not suited for systems without a free PCI slot or for deployments requiring SATA 3 Gbit/s or 6 Gbit/s throughput.

Fit the low-profile bracket, press the card firmly into the PCI slot until the edge connector seats fully, connect the four internal SATA cables, then run the BIOS configuration utility to initialise the RAID array before loading the OS.
The on-board battery that backs the RAID cache may need replacement after several years; otherwise the controller has no moving parts and requires no scheduled service.
The SATA/150 interface caps sustained throughput at 150 MB/s per port, so heavy sequential writes hit that ceiling before the I/O processor saturates.
