24-port PoE firewall gateway

The ADTRAN NetVanta 6300 model 1200740E1 combines a stateful inspection firewall, IPSec VPN, integral SIP gateway, router and 24-port PoE switch in a single 1U chassis. It targets small-to-medium businesses that need voice, data and security services consolidated into one managed appliance.

Rack space power and uplink planning

Verify that your rack can accommodate a 1U device and that the available power budget covers 24 ports operating under the 802.3af standard. Confirm that the two expansion slots match any required Network or Voice Interface Modules and that Gigabit uplinks satisfy the upstream bandwidth demand.

Sustained multi-service load behaviour

Under continuous operation the unit handles simultaneous SIP gateway sessions, stateful firewall inspection, VPN encryption and PoE power delivery across all 24 ports. The integrated architecture avoids the latency and points of failure introduced by chaining separate switches, routers and voice gateways.

Questions about this item

Does the 24-port PoE switch include power supplies for IP phones or must injectors be purchased separately?

The unit integrates 802.3af PoE on all 24 Fast Ethernet ports so IP phones and wireless APs draw power directly from the switch; no external injectors are required.

Should I select the NetVanta 6355 or the 6300 1200740E1 for a site that needs integrated SIP gateway and router functions?

The 1200740E1 is the NetVanta 6300 model that already combines SIP gateway, router, firewall, VPN and 24-port PoE switch in one 1U chassis.

How does the stateful inspection firewall perform when all 24 PoE ports and both expansion slots are populated?

The firewall inspects traffic at wire speed across the 24 PoE ports and any NIM/VIM modules installed in the two expansion slots.
