45 W Power Delivery capacity and headroom

The cable supports a maximum of 45 W (15 V/3 A) when paired with a PD adapter that can supply at least 45 W and 15 V. It comfortably charges Surface Pro 3 through 9, Surface Go, Surface Book and Surface Laptop 1 through 5 at their full supported rate. Headroom ends at the 45 W ceiling; devices or adapters limited to lower voltages or currents will charge more slowly. The 30 cm conductor length keeps voltage drop negligible for the rated load.

USB-C PD interface practical limits

Power Delivery negotiation requires a source capable of 15 V/3 A; a 5 V or 9 V-only charger will not reach 45 W. The magnetic Surface connector is proprietary to Microsoft Surface models listed and cannot charge USB-C laptops, tablets or phones that lack this port. Data transfer is not supported; the cable carries only power. The fixed 30 cm length cannot be extended without adding resistance that may violate the PD contract.
