Studio tracking headphones with 40mm drivers

The AKG K72 is a pair of closed-back over-ear headphones built for studio monitoring. Professional-grade 40mm drivers deliver a balanced response from 16Hz to 20kHz so engineers hear detail across the full audible range. A self-adjusting headband and lightweight frame keep the fit comfortable during long tracking or mixing sessions.

For home studios and project mixing.

Musicians and producers who need accurate reference monitoring at an accessible price will find these headphones suit tracking, editing and critical listening. The closed-back design isolates the performer from bleed while recording. Buyers who require detachable cables, replaceable ear pads or a folding mechanism for frequent transport should look at other models.

Fixed 3-metre cable with no detachable option

The cable is permanently attached and measures three metres, which works well for a stationary desk or console setup. Users who need a shorter lead, a coiled cable or the ability to swap cables for different connectors will need a different pair.

Questions about this item

What comes in the box with the AKG K72 headphones and do I need to buy a cable separately?

The headphones include a fixed 3 m cable, so no separate cable purchase is required.

Which version of the AKG K72 should I choose for studio monitoring?

The single K72 model uses 40 mm drivers and covers 16 Hz to 20 kHz, giving reference-monitor accuracy for tracking and mixing.

How does the 16 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response affect real-world mixing?

It lets you hear deep sub-bass down to 16 Hz and crisp detail up to 20 kHz so EQ decisions translate reliably to other systems.
