AKG ACOUSTICS P170 Project Studio Condenser Microphone

Project Studio Condenser Microphone

The AKG P170 is a small-diaphragm condenser microphone designed for recording percussion, acoustic guitars and drum overheads. Its lightweight 1/2" true condenser transducer delivers outstanding clarity and transient response. It serves as an affordable alternative to traditional pencil microphones and is often purchased in matched pairs for stereo capture.

Lightweight Build and Overhead Mounting

Weighing 1.03 units, the microphone is light enough for extended overhead positioning without straining standard boom stands or clips. The compact housing fits easily into tight stage or studio setups and works with common microphone mounts. This physical profile supports quick repositioning during live sound or tracking sessions.

155 dB Maximum SPL Handling

A maximum sound pressure level of 155 dB allows the capsule to capture loud sources such as snare drums or guitar cabinets without distortion. The 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response covers the full audible range, while 15 mV/Pa sensitivity ensures a healthy signal level for most preamps. Buyers who need lower self-noise for quiet ambient recording or a built-in pad switch for extreme SPL will need a different model.
