Who it fits

The Akingdleo AK-3694 is a 3.5 mm condenser microphone aimed at voice recording, streaming and online chat. It connects directly to a PC, laptop or smartphone that has a 3.5 mm stereo audio jack and works without drivers. The 1.5 metre cable gives enough reach for desk use. Buyers who need USB connectivity or XLR inputs should look elsewhere.

Setup check

Verify that your device provides a 3.5 mm stereo audio jack for microphone input. Some modern laptops and phones combine headphone and microphone into a single TRRS port; a separate splitter may be required in those cases. No software installation is needed, but confirm your operating system selects the external microphone as the default input. The unit draws power from the jack, so no batteries are involved.

Build and daily use

The black body includes a clip for attaching to a shirt, tie or pocket, keeping the capsule close to the mouth. Sensitivity is rated at 30 decibels with a signal-to-noise ratio of 78 decibels, which suits spoken-word capture. The fixed 3.5 mm plug means the cable cannot be replaced if damaged, so route it to avoid strain at the connector.
