Commercial wire shelving unit

The Alera six-shelf unit measures 48 inches wide, 18 inches deep and 72 inches high. Its silver epoxy finish resists corrosion in damp environments. Snap-together assembly requires no tools and is completed in minutes. The open-wire design promotes airflow and limits dust accumulation on stored items.

Fixed shelf to mobile storage upgrade

Each shelf supports up to 600 lbs when evenly loaded and the casters are omitted. Adding the two locking casters converts the rack to a mobile cart while reducing the total weight rating. The jump is worthwhile when workflow demands frequent repositioning of heavy inventory between workstations.

Space and load checks before ordering

Verify that the 48-by-18-inch footprint fits the intended aisle or wall clearance. Confirm the floor can bear the combined shelf loads if the unit remains stationary. Ensure ceiling height accommodates the 72-inch overall height plus any top-shelf clearance needed for safe access.

Questions about this item

What are the overall dimensions I need to clear for the 48-inch wide Alera shelving unit?

The unit measures 48 inches wide, 18 inches deep and 72 inches high, so allow at least that footprint plus aisle space.

Does the snap-together assembly require any tools, and which step causes the most trouble?

No tools are needed; the shelves snap onto the posts. The common mistake is not seating each corner fully until it clicks, leaving a shelf uneven.

How often should I check the welded wire shelves and casters for wear?

Inspect the wire grid and caster stems every six months; tighten any loose levelers and replace casters if the locking mechanism fails to engage.
