Two-Drawer Lateral File Cabinet

This Alera lateral file cabinet provides two drawers that accept both letter and legal files on side-to-side hanging rails. The putty powder-coat finish on steel construction suits general office environments where secure, high-capacity filing is needed. A center lock secures both sides of each drawer and two keys are included.

Installation and Common Issues

The unit arrives fully assembled so no tools or assembly time are required. Four leveling glides let you compensate for uneven floors and the built-in counterweight with anti-tipping interlock allows only one drawer to open at a time. Ensure the glides are adjusted before loading to prevent instability.

Capacity and Safety Limits

Each drawer holds letter and legal files side-to-side on the included rails; the cabinet does not support front-to-back filing without additional accessories. The interlock system physically prevents a second drawer from opening while one is already extended. The center lock operates both drawers simultaneously so individual drawer locking is not possible.

Questions about this item

How do I verify the anti-tipping interlock lets only one drawer open at a time?

Pull one drawer fully open and try the other; the second drawer will stay locked until the first is closed, confirming the counterweight and interlock system is working.

What comes in the box and what must I buy separately?

The cabinet ships fully assembled with side-to-side hanging rails, two keys for the center lock, and four leveling glides installed; no extra parts are needed for basic filing.

Which capacity should I choose for mixed letter and legal files?

This single 36-inch-wide, two-drawer model holds both letter and legal sizes on the included rails, so no other version is required for mixed formats.
