Compact Box/File Pedestal

This two-drawer metal pedestal fits under a desk or beside a workstation and accepts letter or legal hanging files. A 6-inch box drawer holds supplies while a 12-inch file drawer handles folders. Four casters, two of them locking, let the unit move when needed and stay put when not. The counterweight anti-tip mechanism keeps the cabinet stable with a drawer fully extended.

Smooth Operation and Stability

Steel ball-bearing telescoping slides give the box drawer three-quarter extension and the file drawer full-length extension so contents are easy to reach. The full-length pull runs the width of each face for a secure grip. A core-changeable lock secures both drawers with a single key. The counterweight prevents tipping even when the file drawer is fully loaded and open.

Upgrade from Stackable Trays

This pedestal replaces loose desktop trays or a separate filing cabinet when floor space is tight and mobility matters. The jump is worth it when you need lockable, hanging-file capacity that rolls to a collaborative area and locks in place for focused work. Buyers who need more than two drawers or a wider footprint should look at larger lateral files.

Questions about this item

How do I attach the casters to the Alera pedestal, and which step do people skip?

Thread each caster into the base holes; the two locking casters must go on the front corners so the brakes engage the floor, otherwise the unit can roll when a drawer opens.

What part will need replacement first on this pedestal?

The steel ball-bearing slides on the file drawer see full-extension travel every use; the box drawer slides only extend three-quarters, so the file slides wear sooner.

What stops the pedestal from tipping when the file drawer is fully extended?

An internal counterweight shifts the centre of gravity low and rearward; it is sized for the 12-inch file drawer at full extension, so the unit remains stable without wall anchoring.
