SFP transceiver for multi-mode fibre

The ALTRONIX P1MM is a hot-pluggable Small Form-Factor Pluggable module that provides an optical interface for managed switches, unmanaged switches or media converters. It operates over multi-mode optical fibre using dual LC duplex connectors. The module supports Gigabit Ethernet at 1000Base-LX rates for data networking and optical network links.

Sustained link behaviour

Because the module is hot-pluggable, it can be inserted or removed without powering down the host equipment, keeping the link live during maintenance. The transceiver maintains the 1000Base-LX signal across the multi-mode fibre path under continuous load. No power adapter is required as the host supplies the necessary power through the SFP cage.

Upgrade path and fit

This transceiver replaces a missing or failed SFP module in an existing switch or media converter that accepts the 1000Base-LX multi-mode standard. It adds a fibre uplink where only copper ports were available before. It is not suited for single-mode fibre runs or for links that require a different wavelength or reach.
