The Amer.com SD5 is an unmanaged Fast Ethernet switch with five RJ45 ports. It is built for small workgroups that need a simple way to share a single internet connection or link a few PCs and printers. Plug it in and the network is live without any configuration.

10/100 Speed and Auto-MDIX

Each port runs at 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps and negotiates the highest common speed automatically. Auto-MDIX on every port removes the need to choose between straight-through or crossover cables. The switch handles light file sharing and web traffic comfortably, but it cannot carry gigabit throughput for large backups or modern NAS transfers.

Upgrade from Hubs or Fewer Ports

This unit replaces an old half-duplex hub or a router with only one or two LAN sockets, adding full-duplex capacity and extra ports in a palm-sized metal case. The jump is worth it when you need more wired endpoints than your router provides and do not require 1 Gbps links. It will not suit installations that demand gigabit speeds, VLANs, or PoE power.
