APC SMT3000C Tower UPS

The APC SMT3000C is a line-interactive uninterruptible power supply delivering 2880 VA and 2700 W of pure sine wave output in a tower form factor. It is designed to protect servers, storage arrays, network equipment, VoIP systems, desktop workstations and retail point-of-sale terminals from power disturbances. Automatic Voltage Regulation corrects utility fluctuations without switching to battery, preserving runtime for genuine outages. The unit ships new with a bundled 16 GB USB 3.0 drive.

Build integration and remote management

The UPS connects to utility power through a NEMA L5-30P input and provides ten output receptacles: eight NEMA 5-15R and two NEMA 5-20R outlets for protected devices. A SmartConnect Ethernet port enables cloud-based monitoring, firmware updates and remote diagnostics for network administrators. An open SmartSlot accepts an optional Network Management Card for advanced SNMP or web-based control. Graceful shutdown of physical servers, virtual machines and hyper-converged clusters is supported via USB or serial connections using PowerChute software.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

This tower UPS suits IT managers and small-business operators who need rack-free, high-capacity backup with remote monitoring and multiple outlet types for mixed loads. Buyers requiring rack-mount form factors, higher power ratings, or redundant power modules cannot use this model. Environments without a NEMA L5-30P supply circuit will need electrical work before installation. The 116.25 lb weight demands a sturdy floor or shelf and makes frequent relocation impractical.

Questions about this item

How long can the 2880 VA UPS sustain a 2700 W load on battery?

At full 2700 W output the internal batteries provide only a few minutes of runtime, intended for graceful shutdown rather than extended operation.

What fan noise and heat output should I expect when the SMT3000C runs continuously under load?

The tower design uses forced-air cooling; under sustained load the fans become audible and the unit exhausts noticeable heat into the room.

Which input receptacle must already exist on site for the NEMA L5-30P plug to connect?

A NEMA L5-30R locking outlet on a dedicated 30 A circuit is required before the UPS can be installed.
