27-inch Retina 5K all-in-one desktop

The iMac 27-inch 2019 model integrates an 8-core Intel Core i9 processor with a 5120 x 2880 Retina 5K display in a single chassis. It is aimed at creative professionals who need colour-accurate visuals and strong single-threaded speed for video editing, 3D rendering or software development. Buyers who require user-upgradable graphics or internal expansion slots should consider a modular workstation instead.

Thermal and acoustic profile under load

The all-in-one design manages the 3.6GHz i9 and AMD Radeon Pro 575X or 580X graphics within a sealed aluminium enclosure. During sustained workloads the system draws cool air from the bottom edge and exhausts through a hidden rear vent, keeping surface temperatures moderate while fan noise remains low enough for quiet studio environments. Power consumption scales with Turbo Boost activity up to 5.0GHz.

Bundled input devices and macOS integration

A Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse 2 ship in the box, connecting instantly via Bluetooth 5.0 for a cable-free desk. The FaceTime HD camera and studio-quality microphone array are recognised natively by macOS, enabling high-quality video calls without driver installation. Dual Thunderbolt 3 ports and USB 3.0 sockets allow fast external storage or additional displays to be added without adapters.

Questions about this item

How is the memory upgraded on the 27-inch iMac and what step is often missed?

The 2019 model has a memory compartment behind the display; the step people miss is pressing the small release button until the door pops open before inserting the DDR4 modules.

Which component will need replacement first after years of heavy workloads?

The AMD Radeon Pro 575X or 580X graphics card with its GDDR5 memory is not user-replaceable, so a future graphics failure would require a logic-board service.

At what clock speed does the 8-core Intel Core i9 settle during long rendering sessions?

The processor runs at its 3.6 GHz base frequency once Turbo Boost up to 5.0 GHz can no longer be sustained by the thermal system.
