iPad 4 A1458 9.7-inch tablet for basic tasks

The fourth-generation iPad with model number A1458 ships new with a 9.7-inch Retina display and 16 GB of built-in storage. It runs iOS 10.3.4 out of the box and cannot be updated beyond that version. The Wi-Fi-only design suits users who mainly browse the web, check email or stream video in a browser. Buyers who need current app compatibility or cellular connectivity should look elsewhere.

16 GB storage and 1 GB RAM headroom

Sixteen gigabytes of storage holds a modest collection of offline documents, photos and a few lightweight apps, but it fills quickly with modern media libraries or large offline maps. One gigabyte of RAM handles single-task browsing and video playback adequately, yet multitasking or recent app versions often trigger reloads. The A6X dual-core chip at 1.4 GHz with quad-core graphics delivers smooth playback for 1080p content within the browser. Demanding creative workflows or current games will exceed the available headroom.

Lightning connector and aluminium unibody

The aluminium unibody feels rigid and resists flex during daily handling, while the 9.7-inch form factor remains comfortable for one-handed reading. A Lightning port provides charging and accessory attachment, and the 30-pin dock connector of earlier models is not present. The 5 MP iSight camera captures 1080p video for casual recording, and the front FaceTime camera supports video calls within the limits of iOS 10.3.4. Physical Home button with Touch ID is absent on this model.

Questions about this item

Will my existing 30-pin dock connector cables work with the A1458 model?

Yes, the iPad 4 uses the same 30-pin connector as earlier iPads, so your existing dock cables and accessories will plug in directly.

How can I confirm the Retina display and A6X chip are functioning correctly after I turn it on?

Open Settings > General > About and verify the model number shows A1458 with iOS 10.3.4; the text and icons should appear razor-sharp on the 9.7 inch screen, and apps should launch smoothly thanks to the 1.4 GHz dual-core processor.

Does the box include a charger and cable, or do I need to buy a Lightning adapter separately?

The package comes with a UL approved power adapter and a 30-pin charge cable, so no separate Lightning adapter is required for this model.
