Apple iPad Air A1474 9.7" 16GB

The Apple iPad Air A1474 is a 9.7-inch tablet with 16GB of flash storage and a silver finish. It ships new with iOS and includes a front-facing webcam for video calls. The LED-backlit display runs at a 2048 x 1536 resolution. This device suits users who need a basic, portable screen for media consumption or light productivity tasks.

iOS 12.5.5 software limit and app compatibility

This model cannot be updated past iOS 12.5.5, a version released in 2021, which restricts access to current applications and security patches. Many modern apps and web services no longer function on this operating system. Under sustained use, the older processor and limited memory may struggle with multitasking or heavy web pages. Buyers who need up-to-date software support or current app compatibility should consider this limitation carefully.

Simple setup with storage and connectivity

Initial configuration is straightforward: power on, connect to a Wi-Fi network, and sign in with an Apple ID to begin downloading apps. The 16GB storage fills quickly with system files, photos, and a few applications, leaving little room for offline media. Bluetooth is available for wireless accessories, but the single Lightning port handles charging and wired data transfer. Users who require expandable storage or multiple simultaneous connections will find the hardware limiting.

Questions about this item

Does the 9.7" display run warm or drain the battery quickly during all-day use?

The iPad Air 1 is a fanless tablet; its A7 chip and 9.7" LED-backlit screen are designed for cool, efficient operation, so heat and power draw stay low even after hours of use.

What accessories or accounts are required before the A1474 can be activated and used?

You need an Apple ID, a Wi-Fi network for the initial setup, and a Lightning cable with a USB power adapter to charge the 16 GB model.

Can this iPad Air 1 still work with older 30-pin docks or accessories I already own?

No — the A1474 uses a Lightning connector, so 30-pin docks and cables are not compatible without a separate adapter.
