10.2-inch iPad for everyday tasks

The seventh-generation iPad ships with a 10.2-inch Retina display, 3 GB of memory and 32 GB of storage. It runs on the Apple A10 Fusion chipset with a quad-core processor clocked at 2.34 GHz. Cellular models include both a nano-SIM slot and an eSIM profile. The 8.0 MP rear camera and 1.2 MP front camera handle photos and video calls.

Sustained workloads on the A10 Fusion

The quad-core 2.34 GHz processor delivers consistent performance for web browsing, document editing and media streaming over long sessions. Integrated graphics manage the Retina resolution without throttling during typical productivity tasks. Passive cooling keeps the chassis silent while maintaining stable clock speeds. Heavy 3D rendering or prolonged video export may eventually hit thermal limits.

Lightning and Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity

The Lightning port caps wired data transfers at USB 2.0 speeds, so large file moves take longer than on USB-C tablets. Bluetooth 4.2 pairs keyboards, headphones and styluses but lacks the range and throughput of newer versions. Cellular bandwidth depends on carrier networks and the embedded modem category. The 3.5 mm jack remains for wired audio without adapters.

Questions about this item

Does the 10.2 inch Retina display generate noticeable heat or fan noise during long sessions?

The iPad 7 has no internal fan; its A10 Fusion chip runs passively, so the 10.2 inch screen stays warm but silent even after hours of use.

Which accessories are required to use the full-size Smart Keyboard mentioned in the highlights?

The Smart Keyboard connects through the Smart Connector on the iPad 7; no separate Bluetooth pairing or charging cable is needed for the keyboard itself.

Can the Lightning port on this 2019 model still charge older 30-pin dock accessories with an adapter?

The iPad 7 uses a Lightning connector, so legacy 30-pin docks work only with Apple's Lightning-to-30-pin adapter, which is sold separately.
