Ready-to-use tablet for everyday tasks

The 9.7" Retina display runs at 2048 x 1536 and is driven by an A10 2.3 GHz processor with 2GB memory. Wi-Fi only connectivity uses 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.2. Internal storage is 32GB. The gold finish measures 9.4 x 6.6 x .29 inches. iOS ships installed.

Steps up from smaller or older slates

Moving from a 7-to-8 inch device or an earlier 9.7" model adds screen area for split-view apps and Apple Pencil support. The jump is worth it when you need a larger canvas for note-taking, reading or light content creation without carrying a laptop. Buyers who want cellular data or more than 32GB of local storage should look elsewhere.

Limited by Wi-Fi-only and fixed storage

No cellular modem means internet access depends on a nearby wireless network. The single Lightning port handles charging and accessories but offers no direct file transfer or video out. Internal capacity cannot be expanded, so large media libraries require cloud sync. Battery life is rated above 5 hours under typical mixed use.

How do I pair an Apple Pencil with this iPad, and what step is often missed?

Remove the cap and plug the Apple Pencil into the Lightning port; the Pair button appears on screen — tap it to complete pairing.

When the battery no longer holds a full day's charge, what is the replacement process?
