128GB iPad Air 2 with cellular

The iPad Air 2 is a 9.7 inch tablet from Apple with 128GB of storage and Wi-Fi plus cellular connectivity. It runs on the Apple A8X chip at 1.50 GHz with 2 GB of memory. The 2048 by 1536 Retina display includes an anti-reflective coating. Front and rear cameras capture 1.2 MP and 8.0 MP images respectively.

Upgrade from the original iPad Air

This model delivers 40 percent faster CPU performance and 2.5 times the graphics performance compared to its predecessor. It is 18 percent thinner at 0.24 inches and weighs 0.96 lb. The single-layer display design eliminates internal reflectance for richer colors and greater contrast. Buyers staying on older hardware without these gains will miss the speed and thinness.

128GB capacity for apps and media

The 128GB of storage comfortably handles large app libraries, offline media and documents with headroom to spare. Users recording extensive 8.0 MP video or storing sizable offline maps may eventually reach the limit. Cellular connectivity ensures data access away from Wi-Fi networks. Heavy local media collectors should monitor remaining space.

Questions about this item

What physical dimensions and weight should I allow for when choosing a case or mount for this 9.7" iPad Air 2?

The tablet measures 9.45" x 6.67" x 0.24" and weighs 0.98 lb, so any case or stand must accommodate that exact footprint and thickness.

How is the nano-SIM tray accessed on this Wi-Fi + Cellular model, and what mistake do people make?

Insert the ejection tool into the pinhole on the right edge to pop the tray; forcing it without the tool or inserting the tool at an angle bends the mechanism.

When will the sealed 128 GB storage become a limitation, and what is the practical workaround?

iPadOS updates and app caches gradually consume the fixed 128 GB; offloading unused apps and storing media in iCloud keeps the device usable longer.
