Compact 7.9-inch tablet for portable use

The iPad Mini 4 is a 7.9-inch tablet with a 2048 x 1536 LCD IPS display and an Apple A8 1.1 GHz dual-core processor. It ships new with iOS 11, 16GB storage and 2GB memory. Wi-Fi only connectivity and Bluetooth 4.2 suit users who want a lightweight secondary device for reading, browsing or media consumption away from a desk.

Touch ID and dual cameras change daily interaction

A Touch ID fingerprint sensor replaces passcode entry for unlocking and purchases. The 8MP rear camera records 1080p video while the 1.2MP front camera handles FaceTime calls. Two built-in speakers provide stereo audio without external accessories. GPS capability works when Wi-Fi positioning is unavailable.

Check Wi-Fi only limitation and storage ceiling

This model lacks cellular radios so internet access requires a wireless network. The 16GB capacity cannot be expanded and fills quickly with apps, photos or offline media. Battery life is listed above 5 hours; verify that typical workloads fit within that window. The Lightning port uses USB 2.0 speeds for syncing and charging.

Questions about this item

Will the 16 GB storage need upgrading if I keep adding apps and photos?

The iPad Mini 4 ships with 16 GB of built-in storage and no expansion slot, so you will eventually run out of space if you store many apps, photos or videos.

What limits performance first when the A8 chip runs at 1.1 GHz for long periods?

The 2 GB of memory fills up before the processor throttles, causing apps to reload or stutter during heavy multitasking.

Does the tablet get hot or loud after ten hours of continuous use?

With no internal fan, the aluminium chassis dissipates heat silently, though the back can feel warm after extended workloads.
