Processor and Memory

The Apple Mac Pro is a new desktop computer built around an Intel Xeon E5-1680 v2 8-core processor running at 3.0GHz with 25MB L3 cache. It includes 64GB of DDR4 system memory and a 1000GB solid state drive. The system ships with Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks pre-installed.

Graphics and Connectivity

Integrated AMD FirePro D500 graphics provide 3.0GB dedicated video memory and support for up to six external displays via the available HDMI port. Wireless networking uses 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.0 while wired LAN runs at 10/100/1000Mbps. Buyers who need internal drive bays or a dedicated graphics card with more video memory should consider other platforms.

Storage and Expansion

The 1TB SSD offers fast boot and application loading with no mechanical hard drive included. Zero external bays are provided for additional internal storage devices. Expansion relies on the external USB 3.0 ports for adding drives or peripherals. The maximum supported memory is 64GB so no further RAM upgrades are possible.

Questions about this item

Will the Xeon E5-1680 v2 3.0GHz processor work with my existing DDR4 memory modules?

The system comes with 64GB of DDR4 installed, which matches the maximum memory supported, so additional modules are not required.

How can I verify the AMD FirePro D500 graphics with 3.0GB dedicated video memory are functioning correctly after setup?

Open System Report in macOS 10.9 Mavericks to confirm the FirePro D500 appears with 3GB VRAM and that all six supported displays are detected.

Does the box include a monitor or do I need to buy a display separately to use the HDMI video port?

The monitor is not included; you must provide your own display to connect via the HDMI port. The package includes a wired mouse and keyboard.
