Aluminum sealing fitting prevents gas and flame passage in hazardous conduit systems
This Appleton Century Crofts conduit fitting provides a secure seal in hazardous locations. It is built for electricians and maintenance crews working with Class I, II and III Division 1 and 2 environments. The aluminum body resists corrosion while preventing the passage of gases, vapors or flames between conduit sections. It accepts 1/2 inch IMC or RMC conduit.
The 25% fill capacity ensures adequate space for conductor heat dissipation during normal operation. Aluminum construction naturally conducts heat away from the internal sealing compound. The vertical and horizontal mounting orientation does not restrict airflow around the fitting. No moving parts or electrical components are present to generate noise or draw power.
This fitting replaces worn or non-compliant seals in existing 1/2 inch conduit runs where explosion-proof integrity is required. The upgrade is worth it when inspections reveal cracked compounds, corrosion or missing listings for Groups A through G. It is not suited for installations needing larger trade sizes or non-hazardous general-purpose conduit connections.

Thread the male end into the conduit run and the female end onto the adjoining piece, then torque both joints to spec; the step often missed is applying the listed sealing compound before assembly so gases and vapors cannot pass between sections.
Inspect the threads and sealing compound at each scheduled shutdown; replace the fitting if corrosion appears on the aluminum body or if the compound has cracked, because the hazardous-location rating depends on an intact seal.
The 25% fill ratio is the first constraint — exceeding it reduces the space for sealing compound and can let flames or vapors migrate through the conduit system.
