A 90-degree threaded iron elbow connects two half-inch IMC conduit runs in hazardous locations
The Appleton ELM90-50 is a 90-degree threaded elbow designed for IMC conduit runs in hazardous locations. It connects two 1/2-inch male NPT ends and carries Class I, Division 1 and 2 ratings for Groups A through D, plus Class II and Class III coverage. Electricians specifying fittings for explosion-proof or dust-ignition-proof systems use this iron, electroplated fitting to change direction while maintaining the conduit’s protective integrity.
The fitting threads directly onto 1/2-inch IMC or threaded RMC using standard pipe threads; no special tools are required beyond a conduit wrench. Because both ends are male, a coupling or female-threaded accessory is needed to join each side to the conduit system. The electroplated finish resists corrosion but can be damaged if overtightened, so apply firm hand pressure followed by a short wrench turn rather than full torque.
Verify that your existing conduit is 1/2-inch trade size IMC or threaded RMC with matching male NPT threads. Confirm the hazardous-area classification of the installation matches Class I Division 1 or 2, Groups A–D, Class II Division 1 or 2, Groups E–G, or Class III. Ensure the overall length of 1 1/2 inches fits within the available space between boxes or enclosures.

The fitting should show a 90 degree turn with both 1/2 in male NPT ends fully engaged into IMC or threaded RMC conduit, and the electroplated iron surface should sit flush with no visible gaps.
The elbow itself is supplied; you must provide 1/2 in IMC or threaded RMC conduit, thread sealant suitable for hazardous locations, and any locknuts or bushings required by your installation code.
This single model carries Class I Division 1 and 2, Groups A, B, C, D and Class II Division 1 and 2, Groups E, F, G ratings, so it covers that application directly.
