Purpose and rating

The Appleton Century Crofts EYDEF150 is a sealing fitting built for hazardous locations. It carries Class I Division 1 and 2 ratings for Groups B, C, D and Class II Division 1 and 2 ratings for Groups E, F, G. The device stops gases, vapours or flames from travelling between conduit sections.

40 percent fill capacity

The fitting is rated for 40 percent fill, which determines how many conductors can be sealed inside. This limit directly affects the number and size of wires you can run through the 1-1/2 inch FNPT by 1-1/2 inch MNPT ends. Vertical orientation is required for the sealing compound to work correctly.

Standards and material constraints

The malleable iron body meets UL 886 and CSA C 22.2 No 30 standards. The 6 1/4 inch overall length and fixed thread sizes set the space needed in a conduit run. Buyers who need a different fill percentage, horizontal mounting or a larger trade size cannot use this fitting.

Questions about this item

Does the sealing compound inside the EYDEF150 degrade and need replacement?

The fitting is designed to permanently prevent passage of gases, vapors or flames once the sealing compound is installed and cured; the compound itself is not a replaceable component.

What limits continuous operation in a Class I Division 1 environment?

The 40 percent fill rating is the limiting factor; exceeding it would violate the hazardous-location certification and restrict conduit capacity.

How hot does the malleable iron body get when conduit runs full all day?

The iron body dissipates heat from the conductors inside, but no surface-temperature rise figure is published for this fitting.
