Connects 1 in rigid conduit to boxes in hazardous locations with threaded female-to-male ends and chromate, powder-coat and electroplated finishes
The Appleton Century Crofts UNY100 is a galvanised steel expansion union for 1 in rigid conduit systems. It connects conduit to a box with female-to-male threaded ends in hazardous locations. The fitting carries Class I Division 1 and 2, Groups A through D, plus Class II and III ratings. Installers working in classified areas will find it suited to vertical or horizontal runs.
As a passive steel fitting, the union generates no heat, emits no noise and draws no electrical power during operation. Its chromate, powder-coat and electroplated finishes resist corrosion without active cooling. The component simply maintains conduit continuity and grounding integrity in the installed raceway. No thermal management or power budget is required.
The combined chromate, powder-coat and electroplated coating provides multi-layer corrosion protection for the iron body in harsh environments. The hazardous-location rating permits use in Class I, II and III divisions without additional sealing compounds. Threaded FNPT and MNPT ends allow direct assembly to conduit and boxes. No software or accessories are bundled with this fitting.

Thread the 1 in FNPT end onto the box and the 1 in MNPT end onto the conduit, then tighten both joints to the torque value for 1 in rigid steel; the step often missed is applying thread compound rated for hazardous locations before assembly.
Inspect the chromate, powder and electroplated finish annually for corrosion; replace the union if the coating is breached or if threads show galling that prevents a tight hazardous-location seal.
The 3 5/8 in overall length restricts thermal expansion travel, so the conduit system hits its movement limit before the union’s hazardous-location rating is exceeded.
