Application fit

This Appleton Century Crofts UNY50NR rigid union joins 1/2 in threaded rigid conduit to a box in hazardous locations. It suits electricians and maintenance crews who need a female-to-male NPT connection rated for Class I, Division 1 and 2, Groups A, B, C, D, Class II, Division 1 and 2, Groups E, F, G and Class III environments. Buyers who require a different trade size or a non-hazardous fitting should look elsewhere.

Installation check

Verify that the existing conduit and box both use 1/2 in NPT threads before ordering. Confirm the hazardous-area classification matches the fitting’s ratings and that the straight orientation suits the planned run. Ensure the 2 3/16 in overall length and 2 5/32 in height and width fit within the available space.

Build and daily use

The steel body with electroplated zinc finish resists corrosion in demanding industrial settings. Threaded female-to-male ends allow a secure, tool-tightened joint without additional hardware. The compact straight profile keeps the connection close to the box, reducing snag points during routine inspection or conduit maintenance.

Questions about this item

What does the UNY50NR rigid union include and what must be purchased separately?

The fitting itself is supplied; 1/2 in rigid conduit and any required locknuts or bushings are not included.

When should I choose the 1/2 in trade-size version of this union?

Select it when the raceway is 1/2 in rigid conduit and the enclosure entry is 1/2 in NPT.

How does the 2 3/16 in overall length affect installation in a crowded panel?

The compact length lets the union fit in tight enclosures while still providing a full thread engagement.
