Secure Portable Storage

The Apricorn Aegis Padlock is a 1TB external SSD with a 2.5-inch form factor and a USB 3.1 interface. It delivers a maximum read transfer rate of 300 MB/s. The drive features AES-XTS 256-bit hardware encryption and is FIPS 140-2 Level 2 validated. Authentication is handled via an onboard keypad, requiring no software installation on the host computer.

Ideal For Regulated Data

This drive suits professionals handling sensitive information who require hardware-based encryption with physical keypad entry. It meets TAA compliance requirements for government procurement. Buyers needing software-managed encryption, higher throughput speeds, or drives without physical authentication should consider other options. The software-free design prevents critical security parameters from ever touching the host system.

Build Integration

The USB 3.1 connection provides broad compatibility with existing ports and operates at USB 3.0 speeds where required. As a self-powered portable SSD, it needs no external power adapter, freeing up desk space and outlet capacity. The 2.5-inch form factor allows easy transport in a laptop bag. Aegis Configurator compatibility allows administrators to enforce enrollment policies across deployed units.

Questions about this item

Does the drive require any specific port or cable beyond a standard USB 3.1 connection to function?

It connects through a standard USB 3.1 interface and operates at up to 300 MB/s read speed; no proprietary cable or additional hardware is needed.

Will the drive operate at reduced speed if I plug it into an older USB 3.0 port on my current laptop?

Yes, the USB 3.1 interface is backward compatible with USB 3.0 ports, though the maximum 300 MB/s read rate will be limited by the older port's bandwidth.

How can I confirm the 256-bit hardware encryption is active once I set up the PIN on the keypad?

The drive is FIPS 140-2 Level 2 validated; successful PIN entry on the onboard keypad unlocks the AES-XTS 256-bit encryption automatically, indicating it is active.
