Socket and generation

The ASRock B560M PRO4 uses the LGA 1200 socket and the Intel B560 chipset to support 10th and 11th generation Intel Core processors. It provides four DDR4 memory slots with a maximum capacity of 128 GB in dual-channel mode.

Memory and CPU pairing

With an 11th generation Core i9, i7 or i5 the board runs DDR4 up to 4800 MT/s overclocked, while the same CPUs at stock operate at 2933 MT/s. Tenth generation Core i9, i7 and i5 reach 4600 MT/s overclocked; Core i3, Pentium and Celeron are limited to 2666 MT/s.

Expansion layout and daily use

A PCIe 4.0 x16 slot and a PCIe 3.0 x16 slot sit alongside a single PCIe 3.0 x1 slot for add-in cards. The Hyper M.2 socket (M2_1) accepts 2242, 2260 or 2280 PCIe Gen4 x4 NVMe drives when an 11th generation CPU is installed. The Ultra M.2 socket (M2_2) and six SATA 6 Gb/s ports handle additional storage; if a SATA-type M.2 device occupies M2_2, the first SATA port is disabled. An M.2 Key E slot (2230) supports CNVi Wi-Fi modules. Audio is driven by a Realtek ALC897 codec with 7.1-channel output, and networking uses an Intel I219-V 1 Gbps LAN controller.

Questions about this item

What comes in the box and what must I buy separately for the B560M PRO4?

The board ships with the motherboard itself, an I/O shield, SATA cables, and a quick-install guide. You must supply an LGA 1200 processor, DDR4 memory modules, storage drives, a power supply, and a case.

Which memory speed should I choose for an 11th Gen versus a 10th Gen CPU on this board?

With an 11th Gen Core i9/i7/i5 the board supports DDR4 up to 4800+(OC) and native 2933; with a 10th Gen Core it supports DDR4 up to 4600+(OC) and native 2666. Match the kit to your processor generation.

What does the 64 Gb/s Hyper M.2 slot mean for real-world SSD performance?

The M2_1 slot runs at PCIe 4.0 x4 (64 Gb/s) but only when an 11th Gen processor is installed; with a 10th Gen CPU it falls back to PCIe 3.0 speeds. An NVMe drive will still work, just at the lower bandwidth.
