Slim AI barebone for edge workloads

The ASRock Industrial NUCS BOX-358H is a slim barebone mini PC built around the Intel Core Ultra X7 358H processor with 16 cores in a 4P+8E+4LP configuration. An integrated NPU AI engine handles local inference while Intel Graphics drives up to four displays. Memory and storage are not included so integrators choose DDR5-7200 SO-DIMMs and M.2 SSDs to match the workload.

Upgrades from fanless or single-LAN units

The jump is worth it when a project needs an NPU AI engine, Thunderbolt 4 with DP 2.1 output, dual 2.5 GbE ports via Intel i226-LM, and Wi-Fi 7 plus Bluetooth 6.0 in one chassis. Two M.2 Key M slots — one PCIe Gen5 x4 at 2280 and one PCIe Gen4 x4 at 2242 — give fast local storage without external enclosures. The 19 V 120 W adapter powers the complete platform.

Check DDR5 SO-DIMM clearance and M.2 lengths

Verify that 262-pin DDR5 SO-DIMMs up to 64 GB per slot fit the 128 GB dual-channel limit. Confirm the 2280 and 2242 M.2 Key M slots accept the SSD lengths you plan to use. Ensure the single 2.5 GbE RJ45 and the front USB4/Thunderbolt 4 port meet your cabling and display needs before ordering.

Questions about this item

What size SO-DIMM modules fit the 262-pin DDR5 slots?

The board takes 2 x 262-pin DDR5 SO-DIMMs running at 7200 or 6400 MHz, up to 128 GB total.

Which screw do I use for the 2242 M.2 slot versus the 2280 slot?

The 2280 slot uses the standard M.2 standoff; the 2242 slot needs the shorter standoff position — move the screw before inserting the drive.

When should I replace the Wi-Fi 7 module in the Key E slot?

Swap the Key E module only if wireless performance degrades or a newer Wi-Fi 7 card is required; it is a standard M.2 Key E card.
