Multi-system headset with HDMI base station

The Astro Gaming A50X pairs a LIGHTSPEED wireless headset with an HDMI 2.1 base station that supports 4K 120 Hz passthrough and 24-bit audio. It connects simultaneously to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC or Mac, letting you switch between all three with a tap on the ear cup. The package includes the headset, base station, cables, AC adapter and a Dolby Atmos activation card.

Thermal noise and power profile

The headset weighs 12.8 oz (363 g) and draws power only when docked in the magnetic charging cradle, so it runs silently on your head with no fan or active cooling. The base station passes HDMI 2.1 signals at 40 Gbps bandwidth while adding negligible heat to a media console. Battery life is rated for all-day use and recharges automatically each time the headset clicks into the dock.

Deciding specification: three-way PlaySync switching

The single feature that determines fit is the ability to maintain a LIGHTSPEED link to three platforms at once and swap instantly via on-ear controls. If you only game on one system, the extra HDMI ports and multi-device mixing go unused. Buyers who need simultaneous console and PC audio with zero re-pairing will use this daily; single-platform players should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

How do I connect the base station to my PS5 using the HDMI 2.1 passthrough ports?

Plug the console into one HDMI 2.1 input on the base station and your display into the HDMI 2.1 output; the 40 Gbps bandwidth supports 4K 120 Hz with ALLM and VRR, then tap the PlaySync button to select the PS5 source.

Which parts of the headset will need replacement after extended use?

The ear cushions and headband padding are the primary wear items; the magnetic dock keeps the internal battery topped up so battery replacement is not a routine task.

What is the first audio-quality limit I hit during a long wireless session?

The LIGHTSPEED link caps console audio at 16 bit/48 kHz, so 24-bit resolution is only available over the USB connection to a PC.
