Outdoor WiFi 7 mesh node

The ASUS ZenWiFi BD5 Outdoor is a single-pack dual-band WiFi 7 mesh router built for exterior deployment. Its IP65 enclosure withstands dust and water jets while operating from -30 °C to 60 °C. The unit mounts on walls, poles or flat surfaces and draws power through either AC mains or dual 2.5 Gbps PoE ports with automatic WAN/LAN detection.

Dual 2.5 Gbps PoE interface limits

Two 2.5 Gbps Ethernet ports handle both data and power, capping wired backhaul at 2.5 Gbps per link. Wireless backhaul uses the same 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radios that serve clients, so heavy mesh traffic reduces available client bandwidth. The AC input accepts 110–240 V at 50–60 Hz, drawing up to 2 A when PoE is not used.

2 500 sq ft coverage and 5 000 Mbps ceiling

Rated coverage reaches 2 500 sq ft per node; adding area requires additional AiMesh-compatible units. Aggregate wireless throughput peaks at 5 000 Mbps across both bands, with 5 GHz topping out at 4 324 Mbps and 2.4 GHz at 688 Mbps. Homes needing more than one outdoor zone or higher wired uplink speeds will need extra nodes or a separate switch.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the single-pack or add another unit for my 2500 sq. ft. property?

The single-pack covers up to 2500 sq. ft. on its own; you can add a second BD5 Outdoor later via AiMesh if you need more range or wired backhaul.

What does the 5000 Mbps WiFi 7 rating mean for my actual 5 GHz devices?

The 5 GHz radio tops out at 4324 Mbps and the 2.4 GHz radio at 688 Mbps; real-world throughput will be lower due to overhead and client capabilities.

How do the two 2.5G PoE ports limit my wired backhaul speed?

Each port auto-negotiates up to 2.5 Gbps, so a wired mesh link between units is capped at 2.5 Gbps even though the WiFi 7 radio can signal faster.
