Extended ATX Z270 motherboard for 6th and 7th generation Intel Core processors, dual DDR4 slots up to 4266 MHz overclocked, single PCIe 3.0 x16 and dual PCIe 3.0 x4 slots.
The ASUS ROG MAXIMUS IX APEX is an Extended ATX motherboard built for Intel 6th and 7th Generation Core i7, i5, i3, Pentium and Celeron processors. It uses the Intel Z270 chipset and the LGA 1151 socket. It is not compatible with Intel 8th Generation CPUs. The board targets enthusiasts who want high memory speeds and a focused feature set.
The board provides two 288-pin DDR4 slots with a maximum capacity of 32 GB. Supported overclocked speeds range from 2133 up to 4266 MT/s, though Hyper DIMM support depends on the specific CPU installed. This two-slot layout is optimised for high-frequency dual-channel kits rather than large memory arrays.
Integrated Intel HD Graphics can drive HDMI at 4096 x 2304 at 60 Hz and DisplayPort at 4096 x 2160. Four SATA 6 Gb/s ports support RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 for redundant or fast storage arrays. Expansion includes one PCIe 3.0 x16 slot, one PCIe 3.0 x8 slot, two PCIe 3.0 x4 slots and two PCIe 3.0 x1 slots for add-in cards.

The 4266 MT/s figure is an overclocked target that depends on the installed CPU's memory controller and the physical DIMM characteristics. With two 288-pin slots the board tops out at 32 GB, so real-world stability will vary by processor and memory kit quality.
The primary slot runs at PCIe 3.0 x16 electrical, delivering full bandwidth to one GPU. A second x8 slot and two x4 slots share the remaining chipset lanes, so multi-GPU or add-in cards will negotiate lower widths.
The board follows the Extended ATX footprint, so the case must support E-ATX dimensions and provide the standard ATX standoff pattern. Two 288-pin DDR4 slots sit along the top edge, and the I/O shield includes HDMI and DisplayPort cutouts.
