An Intel LGA 1700 ATX motherboard with the Z790 chipset, four DDR5 slots supporting up to 192 GB and a PCIe 5.0 x16 slot
The ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO BTF uses the Intel Z790 chipset and an LGA 1700 socket to support Intel Core 14th and 13th Gen processors alongside 12th Gen, Pentium Gold and Celeron models. It enables Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 and Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0 where the CPU allows. Builders who need a different socket or chipset cannot use this board.
Four DIMM slots accept non-ECC unbuffered DDR5 up to 192 GB total capacity with dual-channel architecture. Speeds range from 4800 through 8000 MT/s when overclocked, plus XMP, AEMP II and DIMM Flex profiles. Users who require ECC memory or more than four slots must choose another platform.
The ATX layout fits standard cases and provides a PCIe 5.0 x16 slot for current graphics cards. A BIOS update dated 2024/08/12 delivers Intel microcode 0x129 to improve stability on 13th and 14th Gen CPUs. Installers who skip the BIOS update may encounter instability with those processors.

The LGA1700 socket and onboard VRM are soldered parts designed for the board's lifespan; no user-replaceable maintenance items are specified for them.
BIOS microcode 0x129 addresses 13th and 14th Gen stability; thermal or power limits will depend on the specific processor and cooler installed.
The board supports DDR5 up to 8000+ MT/s (OC); actual noise and heat vary with memory kit, CPU load and case airflow.
