ATX AM5 platform board

The ASUS ROG STRIX B850-E GAMING WIFI is an ATX motherboard built around the AMD B850 chipset and Socket AM5. It targets enthusiasts assembling a high-performance desktop who want robust connectivity and ROG styling in a standard form factor.

Connectivity-focused builders

This board suits users who need 2.5 Gigabit LAN, Wi-Fi 7 and multiple USB-C ports up to USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 speeds for fast peripherals and networking. Buyers who require more expansion slots or a different chipset feature set should consider other models.

AMD B850 chipset

The B850 chipset defines the platform capabilities and determines which AM5 processors and feature combinations are supported. Matching the chipset to the intended CPU and workload is the decisive step before purchase.

Questions about this item

Will the VRM hit thermal limits before the CPU does during long all-core workloads?

The board uses a robust VRM heatsink design tied to the B850 chipset, so sustained loads are limited by the CPU package power rather than motherboard thermals under normal case airflow.

How loud and hot does the chipset area get when the 2.5 Gigabit LAN and Wi-Fi 7 run continuously?

The B850 chipset is passively cooled; with typical chassis airflow it stays warm but silent, and the 2.5 GbE plus Wi-Fi 7 controllers add negligible extra heat.

Which CPU must I already have to get video output from the rear HDMI and DisplayPort?

Any Socket AM5 processor with integrated graphics will drive the onboard video ports; CPUs without an iGPU require a discrete graphics card for display output.
