Dual-band Wi-Fi 6 router

The ASUS RT-AX82U is a wireless router built on the 802.11ax standard. It delivers dual-band operation on 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz frequencies with combined throughput up to 5400 Mb/s. Four external antennas and a USB 3.2 Gen 1 port extend connectivity options for home and gaming use.

Compatibility checklist

Verify that your internet service provides a WAN connection compatible with the 10/100/1000 Gigabit port. Ensure client devices support Wi-Fi 6 to reach the quoted 574 Mb/s and 4804 Mb/s band speeds. Confirm you have space for four external antennas and a power outlet near the intended location.

Build integration

Four Gigabit LAN ports connect wired PCs, consoles or a NAS directly, freeing wireless bandwidth for mobile devices. The USB 3.2 Gen 1 port adds network storage or printer sharing without a separate server. IPSec VPN support secures remote access for work or gaming traffic. WPA-PSK encryption protects the wireless perimeter out of the box.

Questions about this item

Does the router come with the four external antennas attached or do I need to buy them separately?

The four external antennas are included with the router and do not need to be purchased separately.

Should I choose the 2.4 GHz band at 574 Mbps or the 5 GHz band at 4804 Mbps for my gaming PC?

Use the 5 GHz band for gaming; it delivers up to 4804 Mbps and lower latency, while the 2.4 GHz band tops out at 574 Mbps and is better for range.

My internet plan is 1 Gbps; will the AX5400 rating let me hit that speed over Wi-Fi?

The 5 GHz radio supports up to 4804 Mbps, so a 1 Gbps plan can be fully utilised over wireless, provided your client device also supports Wi-Fi 6 and a strong signal.
