Add-In Thunderbolt Card

The ASUS ThunderboltEX 3 is a PCIe add-in card that brings a single Thunderbolt 3 port to a desktop motherboard. It suits builders and upgraders who need 40 Gbps external bandwidth for storage, displays or docks from one compact slot.

40 Gbps Thunderbolt 3 Port

The card delivers 40 Gbps through a single reversible USB Type-C connector that combines Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.1 and DisplayPort 1.2. It also supplies up to 36 W of USB Power Delivery for charging compatible devices and supports daisy-chaining up to six Thunderbolt peripherals.

Simple Slot Installation

Installation requires a free PCIe slot and an internal Thunderbolt header on the motherboard; without that header the port will not function. An extra USB 3.1 Type-A connector on the bracket adds legacy compatibility, but the card cannot operate on platforms lacking the required firmware support.
