ATX motherboard for LGA 1151 CPUs with DDR4 memory up to 3400 MHz, USB 3.1 Type-C, M.2 storage and Intel LAN
The ASUS Z170-A is an ATX board built around the Intel Z170 chipset for LGA 1151 processors including Core i7, i5, i3, Pentium and Celeron. It provides four DDR4 slots supporting speeds up to 3400 MHz and a maximum of 64 GB in dual-channel mode. Integrated graphics are routed through DisplayPort 1.2, HDMI 1.4b, DVI-D and VGA outputs.
Two PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots run at x16 or x8/x8, a third x16 slot operates at x4 and shares bandwidth with SATA ports, while three x1 slots and one legacy PCI slot handle add-in cards. Six SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports and one SATA Express connector provide drive connectivity, and a single M.2 Socket 3 with M key accepts 2242, 2260, 2280 or 22110 modules in SATA or PCIe mode.
5-Way Optimization automates system tuning, while Pro Clock Technology isolates the base clock for finer overclocking control. Crystal Sound 2 uses the Realtek ALC892 codec for 8-channel audio, and Intel I219-V LAN with Turbo LAN software prioritises network traffic. A reversible USB 3.1 Type-C port and 5X Protection II hardware safeguards complete the package.

The board supports up to 64 GB of DDR4 across its four 288-pin slots, so the memory ceiling is 64 GB.
The board uses passive heatsinks and no onboard fans, so sustained operation adds no extra noise; heat output follows the installed CPU and VRM load.
The socket is LGA 1151, so the cooler must use the standard LGA 1151 mounting pattern.
