ASUS ZenWiFi BD5 WiFi 7 Mesh

The ASUS ZenWiFi BD5 is a dual-band WiFi 7 mesh system that delivers up to 5000 Mbps combined throughput across three nodes, covering homes up to 6800 sq ft with AI Mesh technology for seamless roaming.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

Ideal for large households wanting high-speed wireless coverage, IoT network separation, parental controls and VPN support on up to three SSIDs; buyers who need more than two 2.5G wired ports per node or require tri-band operation with a dedicated backhaul should consider other solutions.

Deciding specification — dual 2.5G ports

Each node provides two 2.5G Ethernet ports that automatically negotiate speed, so the number of high-speed wired connections you can make directly to the mesh is the key factor in choosing this system.

Questions about this item

How do I connect the dual 2.5G Ethernet ports during setup?

Plug the WAN cable into the port labelled WAN and the LAN cable into the other 2.5G port; the router auto-detects which is which so you cannot swap them by mistake.

Will the quad-core 1.5 GHz CPU need a fan replacement later?

The unit uses robust passive cooling with no moving parts, so there is no fan to wear out or replace.

At what point does the 5000 Mbps WiFi 7 throughput become the bottleneck?

Sustained heavy traffic across many devices will hit the 5000 Mbps aggregate wireless ceiling before the 2.5G wired ports or the 1.5 GHz processor saturate.
