Optical fibre loss is specified at .2 dB per metre, allowing a clean run up to 40 metres or 130 feet without audible degradation. Built-in ESD protection guards the circuitry during continuous operation, and the plug-and-play design requires no driver installation or configuration. Format and distance limits

Supported input and output formats include Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 plus PCM stereo at 32, 44.1, 48, 96 and 192 kHz. The device cannot pass 7.1-channel Dolby Digital Plus or Dolby TrueHD because those formats exceed the bandwidth of a Toslink link. Buyers needing multichannel audio beyond 5.1 must use an HDMI connection instead.
