The bi‑directional design also works with Thunderbolt 1 and Thunderbolt 2 ports on compatible MacBook models. It is not for systems that only offer HDMI or USB‑C video outputs without a Mini DP adapter.

Sustained 80 Gbps bandwidth

The cable maintains the full DisplayPort 2.1 80 Gbps link rate over its 6.6 ft length, supporting 16K at 60 Hz, 8K at 120 Hz and 4K at 240 Hz without dropping to a lower speed tier. DSC 1.2a compression and HBR3 signalling keep the data path stable during extended gaming or rendering sessions. Dynamic HDR and 32‑bit 7.1 audio pass‑through remain active under continuous load. It cannot exceed the 80 Gbps ceiling defined by the DP 2.1 standard.

DP 2.1 practical limits

DisplayPort 2.1 tops out at 80 Gbps, so 16K at 60 Hz uses the maximum available bandwidth with DSC enabled. The interface remains backward compatible with DP 1.4, 1.3, 1.2, 1.1 and 1.0, but those older versions cannot reach the 16K or 8K 120 Hz modes. MST multi‑stream support allows daisy‑chaining within the same bandwidth envelope. The cable does not add bandwidth beyond what the host and display controllers provide.
